Restoring Habitat for Native Invertebrates

Many of Perth and south-west Western Australia's insect species depend on intact native vegetation. These invertebrates are closely linked to the plants and habitats that support them.

The south-west of Western Australia is a globally recognised biodiversity hotspot, containing a wide range of native grasses, flowering shrubs, woodlands, and wetland ecosystems that support diverse insect communities.

Supporting ecosystem restoration can be as simple as planting locally native species suited to sandy soils, low rainfall, and seasonal climate conditions. These plants provide food and habitat for a wide range of invertebrates.

Small changes in home gardens, backyards, and urban green spaces can help restore habitat and increase the presence of native insects and spiders in the Perth region.
